Quality and sustainability: in the field and at work

For us, “company” means first and foremost community: together we cultivate a sustainable future for everyone, and we do so by taking care every day of the well-being of our workers, ensuring a welcoming, positive, collaborative, and sustainable work environment where everyone can benefit for themselves and their family.

Care for the working environment

We recently secured funding to renovate our offices and areas dedicated to our workers. Here is what we will build:

  • a new canteen room with kitchen facilities and an outdoor area
  • a room for professional training courses
  • new changing rooms with a dedicated washing area for Muslim workers during Ramadan
  • an equipped park to spend lunch breaks together

Growth and employee support

We are currently setting up and launching a project that is particularly close to our hearts: establishing a section within our technical department dedicated to supporting the agricultural entrepreneurial projects of our employees, helping them navigate through various calls for tenders to secure funding. Our greatest dream is that these young people, born and raised in the countryside, will one day become BioSikelia producers themselves.

Furthermore, to promote education and professional development for the children of our employees, we organize scholarships divided by school category, which we award every year to the most deserving students during our end-of-year celebration.

No Cap

One of the initiatives we care about most is our collaboration with NO CAP, which has been ongoing since 2021, the year BioSikelia was deemed eligible to market its products under their label.

NO CAP was established to combat illegal gangmaster labor (caporalato) and ensure an ethical supply chain in agricultural production, thanks to the dedication of Cameroonian engineer and activist Yvan Sagnet, a benchmark for defending farmworkers’ rights.

Receiving this recognition has driven us to work with even greater commitment toward integrating and implementing a virtuous labor recruitment system. Alongside us is Father Carlo, parish priest of Bosco Minniti on the outskirts of Syracuse, who for 30 years has offered shelter and solidarity to people living on the margins of society and non-EU migrants arriving in Italy by sea. Together with Father Carlo, we have provided jobs to many young people from various African countries, who arrived in Italy as refugees with valid residence permits: Peter Eseme, Klifa, Lassana, Alagie, and Gana Gregory have been part of our team for three years now.

Our founder, our HR manager, and our warehouse manager meet periodically to review the situation of these young team members, evaluate how their integration into the workforce is progressing, and ensure they have everything they need available to them.

To us organic is a way of life
