Sharing is an extraordinary act. Our Open Day was above all this: an incredible moment of sharing.

We told our story to those who already know us and to those who had never heard of us before. We gave voice to our projects and values through the presence and voices of companies and people we collaborate with.

Research and innovation, environmental sustainability, communication, and social sustainability were just some of the topics we discussed.

We brought young women, young men, women, and men into our fields to discover tropical crops and the biodynamic method. We hosted a workshop of ideas and dialogue.

But what gave us the greatest satisfaction was seeing people meet, even for the first time, exchange ideas, discuss, and shake hands.

This is what we have in mind when we say that our goal is to become a system, a virtuous hub for the development of organic farming in our Eastern Sicily. And if we don’t try, with our 34 years of experience in organic farming and 16 years of networking, who should? Our land needs it. It needs to prove that we are perfectly capable of coming together, engaging in dialogue, sharing experiences and expertise, and expressing the enormous productive and qualitative potential of our agriculture. And the proof was precisely September 23, European Organic Day, the day we spent together, the BioSikelia Open Day.

Thank you to our growers and suppliers for being here and coming to represent the best of Eastern Sicily. Thank you to the high school students, who dedicated their attention to us and perhaps a piece of their thoughts on the future.

Thank you to all the people who chose to be present, some even speaking and becoming an integral part of our conversation on organic farming as a lifestyle choice. The Mayor of Avola Rossana Cannata, Dr. Giovanni Privitera from BioAgriCert, Dr. Giulio Paolini from Italia Ortofrutta, Prof. Alberto Continella from the University of Catania, Dr. Fabio Tittarelli from CREA, Attorney Simona Moscarelli from No Cap.

Thank you to Casa di Melo for reminding so many of what it feels like to eat at grandma’s house.
Thank you to Disko Service for the technical organization.
Thank you to Italia Ortofrutta and the Ortofrutta Experience initiative, which gave us the opportunity to do something beautiful that, due to so many work commitments, we do far too rarely.

But above all, thank you to the fabulous BioSikelia team, who makes our Producer Organization what it is: every single person over the last few weeks gave more than their utmost to ensure this event was splendid. It is a joy and a privilege to be able to work with all of you.
