The Nova mandarin (often marketed as Clementine Nova) is a high-quality hybrid originally introduced in the United States and widely valued across Mediterranean citrus-growing basins. This cultivar stems from a targeted cross between Common Clementine (Citrus clementina) and Orlando Tangelo (a hybrid of Dancy mandarin and Bowen grapefruit). The goal of the breeding program was to blend the aroma, sweetness, and easy-peeling nature of the clementina with the superior size, productivity, and extraordinary juice yield typical of the tangelo.
The Nova is a medium-to-large citrus fruit, larger than traditional early clementines; it is easy to peel, juicy, seedless, and features a lingering sweetness.
We harvest our organic Nova exclusively by hand, using specialized harvesting clippers to prevent damaging the calyx rosette. This is followed by crate transport, washing, and the removal of shape or skin defects. Sizing is performed by sorting batches according to the commercial sizes requested by target markets. Packaging into suitable containers is carried out strictly without forced thermal degreening processes, in order to preserve the product’s natural freshness and shelf life.

Health benefits
- Strengthening immune defenses: the synergistic action of ascorbic acid and trace elements supports the prevention of seasonal colds.
- Cardiovascular protection: flavonoid components actively work to preserve capillary elasticity and permeability.
- Body hydration and diuretic function: the high liquid fraction of the fruit promotes drainage and tissue fluid turnover.
- Optimization of intestinal transit: Soluble fibers (pectins) facilitate digestive processes and bowel regularity.
Main bioactive compounds
- Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): present in high concentrations, essential for antioxidant action and supporting body defense systems.
- Flavonoids and Polyphenols: bioactive compounds responsible for cellular protection and vascular stability.
- Carotenoids: Particularly beta-carotene and cryptoxanthin, precursors of Vitamin A and responsible for the vivid pulp pigmentation.
- Mineral Salts: Balanced intake of Potassium, Magnesium, and Calcium, useful for fluid-electrolyte replenishment and muscle efficiency.
Serving suggestions and recipes
The Nova is perfect enjoyed fresh, but thanks to its exceptional juiciness, it is also highly suited for freshly squeezed juice. Its organoleptic characteristics and the balance between acidity and sweetness also make it an ideal ingredient in cooking to accompany white meats and fish, as well as in pastry making for preparing desserts such as sorbets, ice creams, glazes, and candied peel.
